(Anchorage-AP) -- The Seldovia Native Association is getting into the tourism business.

The village corporation is planning to construct a nine million dollar upscale hotel next to the Dimond Center in South Anchorage. The Dimond Center is Alaska's largest shopping mall.

Company chief executive Michael Beal says groundbreaking is set for next spring with plans to open the hotel by spring of 2002 at the latest.

The hotel will be located on the southwestern corner of the mall's parking lot. The Native corporation will lease the site long term from the Dimond Center.

Beal says the hotel is expected to have about one hundred eleven rooms.
