JUNEAU (AP) -- A Haines man pleaded guilty Thursday to criminally negligent homicide in the beating death of his uncle last year.

Robert Skulka, 36, entered his plea in Juneau Superior Court as part of an agreement with the state. He originally was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Sept. 17 death of William Jackson, 48.

Skulka, who is scheduled for sentencing June 19, faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Skulka, Jackson and others were drinking in Jackson's trailer the night of the killing when Jackson and Skulka began arguing over ownership of the trailer. The argument escalated and Skulka reportedly kicked his uncle in the torso.

Jackson died of internal bleeding later that night.
