FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A former worker at a Fairbanks auto parts store is accused of embezzling as much as $90,000 from the business.

Gary D. Sowers, 36, has been charged with first-degree theft in connection with the allegations involving the M&O/Schuck's Auto Parts store.

According to the criminal complaint, police were alerted to the alleged embezzlement after a lengthy audit of store records by CSK Auto, the company that owns M&O/Schuck's. The complaint charges Sowers with embezzling the money between March 2000 and March 2001, during which time police say he worked as a store manager.

Fairbanks police officer Jonathan Terland said Sowers made false claims of payments to customers for returned auto parts, then pocketed the money.
