Bruno Anderson, 9, right, and Tyler Heindl, 13, middle, spread grain on the front-viewing field of Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge on Thursday afternoon April 5, 2001, in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Malachi Moniz, 4, left, hangs on to a stuffed toy they found in the field. The boys were volunteering to help out the Borealis Kiwanis Club spread barley for the annual arrival of Canada geese.

Distributing the grain is part of a cooperative effort between the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, FairbanksInternational Airport, Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base to attract geese to Creamer' Field rather than area airports, where they pose a danger to arriving and departing planes.
