St. Francis to hold special services

St. Francis By the Sea Episcopal Church in Kenai will hold special services for Easter. A Good Friday celebration will be held today with Tenebrae at 7 p.m. and an Easter service will be held Sunday with the Holy Eucharist at 9:15 a.m. The Rev. Veronica Knapick will officiate on Easter.

Purification fast will end with communion

The Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ beginning its annual three-day purification fast to be broken with communion at the 7 a.m. Sonrise service Sunday.

The Sunday school department plans to offer special morning activities, including a play "And Still He Came To Jerusalem," performed by the 11- and 12-year-old class for children ages 5 through 10. Classes thereafter will separate by age for an annual money hunt.

An evening worship service will be held at 5:30 p.m. and will include the AAJC choir's rendition of the cantata "His Last Days," together with other special music and songs.

Easter breakfast planned

The Star of the North Lutheran Church at 216 N. Forest Drive in Kenai will hold a Good Friday prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today. The church will celebrate Easter Sunday with its annual Easter breakfast at 9 a.m. An Easter service will follow the meal at 11 a.m.

Methodist church to celebrate Holy Week

The United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai will hold various services to celebrate Holy Week.

A simple soup supper will be held today at 6 p.m., followed by a service of Holy Communion. On Sunday, "The Easter Story," in music, hymns and scripture, will be held at 8:30 a.m. with an all-church breakfast held at 9:30 a.m. Worship will be at 11 a.m. with a reception of new members and a fellowship time following at noon.

The church is across the street from the Boys and Girls Club in Kenai.

SolFirst to hold Easter service

Soldotna First Assembly's Easter service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and feature special music by Cathie Longfellow. The youth drama team will perform "Watch the Lamb." A children's treasure hunt will follow the morning service. SolFirst is two blocks from the "Y" behind The Salvation Army on the Kenai Spur Highway.

Services slated for Friday, Easter Sunday

The Sterling Lutheran Church will hold a Good Friday service today at 7:30 p.m. Sunday the church will hold "The Day of Resurrection" at 10 a.m. at the church, which is on Swanson River Road.

Cooper Landing to hold services

Easter sunrise services are planned for 7:30 a.m. outside Sackett's Kenai Grill in Cooper Landing. Coffee will be served to warm those attending. The church is sponsoring Easter breakfast at the community hall beginning at 8:30 a.m. St. John Neumann Catholic Church services begin at 12:30 p.m. and Cooper Landing Community Church Easter service will be held at 4 p.m. at the Catholic church.

Men's retreat planned

The Abundant Life Assembly of God will hold a men's mini retreat April 27 and 28 at the church. The guest speaker will be Mel Williams, associate pastor of Anchorage Greater Assembly Temple and former director of the Alaska Men's Ministry and Alaska Promise Keepers.

A dinner will be served that Friday at 6:30 p.m. with music and a message to follow. A breakfast will be served Saturday at 9 a.m. with a message to follow.
