Head Start open house today

The Sterling Head Start will hold an open house from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the school at Mile 81.5 of the Sterling Highway next to Cook's Tesoro. Information, registration and special activities are planned.

The school also is accepting applications for the 2005-06 school year. The program is available for children who will be age 3 by Sept. 1 and who are 4 and 5 but not yet eligible for kindergarten. For more information on the open house or fall enrollment, call 260-7446.

Nikiski chamber to meet

Lisa Parker, spokesperson for Agrium, will speak at noon Thursday at the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Ohana's Family Restaurant. For more information, call Judene Van Cleave at 776-5551.

Assistant principal interview set

The Nikiski Middle-Senior High School assistant principal interview will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Borough Building in Soldotna. The public is invited to observe and give written comments afterward. For more information, call Linda Ralston at 776-3456, ext. 341.

KPC council to meet

The Kenai Peninsula College Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Seward Public Library at 238 Fifth Ave. It is open to the public. For more information, call Cindy Finwall at 262-0318.

Relay for Life meeting set

There will be a team captain meeting for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at 6 p.m. Friday at Central Peninsula General Hospital. For more information on Relay for Life or forming a team, call Sylvia Andrus at 262-7581 or 776-2027.

YRC fund-raiser slated

Nikiski North Star Elementary School will host a dinner and auction fund-raiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Kenai Merit Inn. Dinner will be Kenai Wild salmon.

The proceeds will benefit the fifth- and sixth-graders' participation in the Youth Restoration Corps Stewardship Ranger Program. The cost is $30 per person. Tickets are available by calling the school at 776-5575, Youth Restoration Corps at 262-1032 and at the door.

Elks fund-raiser set

The Kenai Elks Lodge will host a dinner, raffle, spilt-the-pot and open mic night fund-raiser at 7 p.m. Saturday at the lodge on Barnacle Street. Proceeds will benefit the Kenai Elks youth activities. The cost is $10 per person and includes dinner. Tickets are available at the lodge after 4 p.m. today through Saturday. Dinner, auction fund-raiser planned

The Soldotna Lions Club will host at taco feed and silent auction fund-raiser at 6 p.m. April 23 at the lodge. Split-the-pot, a silent auction, children's games and raffles are some of the planned activities. The cost is $10 per person. Children 12 and under are free. Conservation fund-raiser slated

The Safari Club will host its 14th annual Midnight Sun dinner and auction fund-raiser April 23 at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Auctions items will include hunts and artwork optics. There also will be a photo contest with a chance to win a digital photo printer. Proceeds will benefit wildlife conservation, humanitarian efforts and protection of hunting heritage.

Tickets are available at American Trophy Taxidermy, Homestead Jewelers, the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center and the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call 260-9266.
