Judge Cranston remembrance ceremony slated

A ceremony dedicated to the memory of Judge Charles K. Cranston will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Kenai Courthouse. It is open to the public.

Community film night ready to show

The Kenai Peninsula College will host a community film night Friday in Room 132 at the college. Three films will be shown: “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, “ Sunday Paper 2B” and Rocks and Chocolate.” For more information and times, call Chris at 262-0367.

Easter brunch scheduled

The Family Moose Lodge will host a champagne Easter brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Prime rib, glazed ham, omelettes and waffles will be served. For members and guests only. Proceeds will benefit the lodge’s community programs.

SoHi after-grad committee to meet

The Soldotna High School after-graduation party committee will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the teachers’ lounge. The committee needs assistance with chaperoning, planning and coordinating activities, decorations and food. Monetary donations and donations of prize items also are needed. Attendance at planning meetings is not necessary to help with this event. For more information, call Mary Jo Spotts at 262-5447.

Rowing class begins

An introduction to rowing presentation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Soldotna Middle School. Participants will learn about the health benefits of sweep rowing. Opportunities to register for learn to row classes and join the Alaska Midnight Sun Rowing Association will be offered. For more information or to register, call 262-6768.

Recycling round-up set

The last collection of the 2005-06 season for the Great Aluminum Can Round-up will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22, Earth Day, at the Central Peninsula Landfill on the Sterling Highway. The eight participating schools and youth groups will benefit from the sale of the cans in addition they will be competing for prize money donated by Alaska Waste and Green Star.

Community members may bring cans on that date. Area school or youth group of your choice will benefit from the proceeds. For more information, call Barbara Maynard at 262-3190.

Safari Club fundraiser set

The Safari Clubs will hold it 15th annual Midnight Sun fundraiser and banquet April 22 at the Soldotna Sports Center. Auctions, raffles and door prizes are some of the planned activities. Dinner will be prime rib and stuffed shrimp. Tickets are available at American Trophy Taxidermy, Homestead Jewelers, Kenai Visitor and Cultural Center and the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds will benefit wildlife conservation, humanitarian efforts and to help protect hunting heritage.

Storyteller comes with strings attached

The Kenai Community Library will host string storyteller David Titus at 2 p.m. April 22 at the library. Children will receive a free string.

Garage sale fundraiser slated

The Kenaitze Head Start will hold a garage sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28 and 29 at the school.
