Oilers sign Oregon State's Copeland

Oregon State University's Stephen Copeland has signed with the Oilers for the upcoming season.

Copeland splits time between pitcher and middle infield. As a pitcher, Copeland has seen duty as both a starter and reliever and has notched a 3-0 record for the Pac-Ten Conference Beavers.

At the plate, the freshman from Keizer, Ore., has a .333 batting average. Copeland was recently named to the Texas A&M all-tournament team.

Don't forget -- the deadline is fast approaching for applications for the five college scholarships that will be awarded to graduating high school students. All completed forms must be in the Oilers office by 5 p.m. Monday.

These scholarships are awarded annually by the Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club, Inc., and the Peninsula Oilers Booster Club, Inc., to graduates of high school programs boroughwide and are good for the winners' college of choice.

For applications or information call the Oilers at 283-7133 or stop by the Oilers office on the corner of Cook Avenue and Main Street in Kenai.

Oilers Corner is submitted weekly during the offseason by Mike Baxter, Baseball Operations Manager for the Peninsula Oilers Alaska Baseball League team.
