Alice L. Whipple died Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the Sitka Pioneers Home in Sitka, where she lived for the last 11 years. She was 89.
Before moving to the Sitka Pioneers Home, Ms. Whipple lived in Kenai. She spent most all her life in Ketchikan, where she raised five sons.
Ms. Whipple was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Idaho. She left Tacoma, Wash., when she was 4 years old with three brothers and her parents on a fishing boat. They went to Kasaan, where she attended school. She finished school in Ketchikan. She worked for and retired from Ketchikan Public Utilities and belonged to the IBEW union.
She belonged to the Pioneers Lodge, Redmans Lodge, Moose Lodge and the North Tongass Community Club. She loved raising a garden and flowers. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Ms. Whipple was preceded in death by sons, Joe and Lee.
Ms. Whipple is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Harry Diamond lll and Juanita, Charlie and Diamond, and Harold and Pat Diamond. She has several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
