Story of women marathoners brings back fond memories

Posted: Monday, April 14, 2003

Wow! What an inspirational story regarding the four women marathoners from Kenai and Soldotna ("Runners support each other on road to Boston Marathon.")

I moved away from Soldotna almost three years ago but it sure is a pleasure to read about my friend (Connie Best) and the two others (Mary Stenga, Kenda Blanning) I know through Connie and my brief stint with the Peninsula Running Club in 1998. At 6 feet 3 inches and 240 pounds, I was never much of a threat to keep pace with any of them, but the camaraderie of the running club is something I will not forget and have not found a duplication of up here in the big city.

I wish all four the best of luck in the Boston Marathon and will be looking for their successful times in future issues of the Clarion.

Who knows, maybe I'll even run a marathon someday, although that would mean having to actually train!

Thanks for a great story!
