Many contribute to successful basketball season for youths

Posted: Monday, April 14, 2003

The Boys and Girls Club's seventh- and eighth-grade basketball league recently concluded its season. Boys and girls from throughout the central Kenai Peninsula area had the opportunity to be a part of a team, get a little exercise and socialize with their friends.

Hats off to the many people involved in making the season run smoothly Mark Tuter for presenting the coaches' clinic, all those who helped keep score, time and stats during games, the encouraging fans, Kenai Central High School for the use of their gym and the hard-working referees for providing a safe, positive environment for the kids to play in.

The Boys and Girls Club is especially grateful to those who made time in their busy lives to coach. Without their willingness to volunteer their time, there would not be a basketball program! The Boys and Girls Club salutes these truly awesome individuals: Mike Gustkey, Craig Jung, Butch Leman, Mike Vanderford, Deb Blossom, Brad Carver, Dan Poppin, Pat Rose, Mike Metteer, Shiloh Riley, Ian Foley, Richard Byrd, Steve Stenga, Robert Siter, Dave Westerman, Jana Query, Chuck Gibbons, Doug Jung, Jeff Mills and Tony Garcia. Thanks for giving these kids an opportunity to play.

Also, the Boys and Girls Club greatly appreciates the generosity of the individuals and businesses who gave their financial support by sponsoring a team: Mike and Marsha Gustkey, Ninilchik Traditional Council, Kalgin Mechanical, Kapolchok Law Offices, Soldotna Wash N Dry, Coffee Roasters and Big G Electric. Their support helps ensure our program is a quality one.
