The Soldotna boys and girls soccer teams started their season Tuesday by tying Grace Christian in a pair of games at Anchorage Football Stadium.
The score of the girls game was 0-0. Marlana McCown had the shutout for Soldotna, while Kaitlin Burr blanked the Stars for Grace.
"She made some really nice saves in her first reacquaintance with the goal," Soldotna girls coach Katie Tongue said of McCown. "We've been in the gym, so she hasn't played in front of one all season.
"I think she went out and looked at it a couple of times, but that was it."
Tongue said senior sweeper Ricki Jackson, senior stopper Abby Kiffmeyer and senior defensive midfielder Annie Penner all did a good job containing Grace scoring threat Ally Erving.
The coach also said Ashley Bell and Katey Jones did a good job applying offensive pressure for Soldotna.
"I was pleased with everybody," Tongue said. "We had a lot of subs go in, and everybody played well together."
The Soldotna and Grace boys played a 1-1 game, with both the goals coming on penalty kicks. Brook Carver scored for Soldotna, but his goal was quickly answered by Steven Booher of Grace.
