ANCHORAGE -- A 38-year-old man from the Kuskokwim River village of Chuathbaluk has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife.
Arthur Peterson is charged with killing Darlene Peterson, 39, at their home in Chuathbaluk about 11 miles upriver from Aniak.
Troopers said Darlene Peterson died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Darlene Peterson's body was discovered by their 18-year-old daughter Friday morning and reported to the village health aide, who contacted troopers.
Trooper said they received information regarding Arthur Peterson's whereabouts Friday afternoon and located him at a cabin about halfway between Chuathbaluk and Aniak.
Peterson accompanied troopers voluntarily to Aniak where he was arrested. Troopers said they recovered a .223 caliber rifle believed to be the murder weapon.
Troopers said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the shooting. Peterson also was charged with two counts of misconduct involving a weapon and driving a snowmachine while intoxicated.
He was arraigned Saturday morning in Bethel and ordered held on $250,000 cash only bail.
