Soldotna resident Steven J. McClain died of natural causes at Central Peninsula Hospital Friday, April 13, 2001. He was 56.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. John Ingram will officiate. His ashes will scattered at a later date on Gray's River in Alpine, Wyo.
Mr. McClain was born on Aug. 6, 1944, in Kellogg, Shoshone County, Idaho. He completed high school. He moved to Alaska on Nov. 30, 1999, and lived in Soldotna. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. His interests included hunting, fishing and gun collecting.
"Steve was a kind-hearted man who made a friend of everyone he met," his family said.
He is survived by mother and stepfather, Betty and Ron Walden of Soldotna; father, J.W. McClain; brother, Michael McClain; stepbrother and his wife, Scott and Gloria Walden; uncles and aunts Scott and Gloria Walden and Allan and Ruby Maki.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
