The SoHi Stars Mock Trial team last month earned the right to be Team Alaska by winning the Alaska State Mock Trial Competition in Anchorage, and unseating the team from Chugiak for the first time in seven years.
In a commending resolution at the last Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meeting, the Assembly honored team members Jennifer McCard, Pehr Hartvigson, Matthew Meacham, Haley Smith, Justin Johnson, and Ryan Myers. LaDawn Druce coached the team.
As the team readies for the national competition in New Orleans, they must prepare both defense and plaintiff sides of a new case where they will be both attorney and witness. Additionally the team is raising funds to meet the travel expenses that are estimated to be $10,000 for the team. "I think we're about half way there, but now we have to get working on the new case," said Hartvigson. Anyone interested in helping to sponsor the team can contact LaDawn Druce at Soldotna High School at 262-7411.
