On April 29, Rick Huddleston, my whistling mailman for 15 years, will retire from our post office.
Oh, how I shall miss him. I am old and he carried my heavy mail and packages up the stairs to me. When I once did not pick up my mail he checked to be sure I had not fallen or was ill.
And he made my heart glad with his whistles. When I was young, men and boys whistled all the time but now no one but Rick does.
Rick deserves to retire after 40-plus years but the world, my world, is going to be dreary without him.
