Grace Lutheran Church and School will host "Easter for Kids," a program to share the real meaning of Easter, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the church off K-Beach Road, one block down on Ciechanski Road. Kids ages 3 years old to 6th grade may attend. There will be Bible teaching, singing, arts and crafts, games and cookie decorating. Lenten services will continue Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m. at Star of the North Lutheran Church, 216 N. Forest Dr., in Kenai. Everyone is welcome. We will be continuing to look at some of the players involved in the events leading up to the crucifixion, and listening to what their conversations might have been. Sunday, April 17, at 9:30 a.m., during the Sunday school hour, the children will be taking a walk along the via Dolorosa, visiting the Stations of the Cross, followed by Palm Sunday worship service. The Upper Room Gathering is an opportunity to experience what it would have been like in the upper room with Jesus and His disciples. With greetings from characters from that time period, removing your shoes in reverence, walking through the blood stained doorway, to tasting authentic Passover food, guests get a glimpse into the final hours of Jesus' life here on earth. This event is a blending of the ancient traditions with contemporary aspects for the entire family. Classes for anyone interested in the Catholic Church will be held each Wednesday evening at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The classes are held in O'Neill Hall on Redoubt Avenue at 6:30 p.m. each week. Those attending will learn about the teaching of the Church based on the teachings of Jesus Christ to His disciples. Saint Luke Lutheran Church offers several faith strengthening opportunities during the week. The parish's Wednesday 10:30 a.m. fellowship/study is focusing on Numbers. The group attempts to cover one chapter a session and meets at 48095 Andrews Avenue for approximately one hour.
Wednesday evening activities take place at the Parish Hall, 43055 Kenai Spur Highway, and consist of a potluck fellowship, Vespers Service and detailed analysis of basic Christian doctrine, currently focusing on the relevance of ancient Christian doctrine for the 21st Century. The fellowship/potluck begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by Vespers at 6:30 p.m. and study from 7 to 8 p.m. The pastor also offers weekly homilies on the website in written and mp3 formats for those who cannot participate in any of the parish activities in person.
