Trooper receives honor, awards
Alaska State Trooper Justin Rodgers was honored March 30 in Anchorage with three awards at the annual Department of Public Safety awards banquet. The awards are Fish and Wildlife Trooper of the year for 2000, C Detachment Trooper of the Year and Meritorious Service Award.
He is a 1991 Soldotna High School graduate and the son of Chuck and Jeanette Rodgers of Soldotna.
Students named to honor lists
Kimberly C. McLaury of Kenai was named to the winter term honor roll of Oregon State University. She attained a 3.5 grade point average for the semester.
Joel Patrick of Kenai was named to the dean's list at LeTourneau University for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
He is the son of Richard Smith of Kenai.
Airmen graduate basic training
Air Force Airman Andrew R. Cornelius graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
He is the son of Nancy Cornelius of Rosamond, Calif. and the nephew of Sally D. Castro of Soldotna.
Air Force Airman Brian K. Hankins graduated from military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
He is the son of Thomas Hankins of Homer and Cathryn Barber of Roanoke, Va.
During the six weeks of training, the airmen studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
SoHi grad receives special training
Army Pvt. Katheryn M. Scroggs graduated from the unit supply specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.
She was trained in receipt, storage, issue and accountability of individual, organization and installation supplies and equipment, including training in maintenance of small arms.
She is the daughter of Raymond P. and Violet M. Vin Zant of Soldotna. She is a 1996 graduate of Soldotna High School.
Skaters place in skating
Skaters from the Denali Ice Club traveled to the Portland Ice Skating Club Spring Festival 2001 recently. Stephanie Bishop, Tory Coursen, Katie Shearer and Hilary Schneider placed in the competitions and were awarded medals and 20 trophies between the four of them. Tory Coursen also won a memorial award at the festival.
