This listing of Soldotna Community School classes beginning this week serves as a reminder for preregistered participants. Most classes require preregistration and prepayment. If you did NOT preregister, please call the Soldotna Community School office, at 262-6768, to check on cancellations and confirm your attendance.
Details about each class can be found in the Spring 2001 Soldotna Community School brochure, which is available at Soldotna and Kenai public libraries, the city of Soldotna and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.
n First Aid: Class taught by Diane M. Campbell, EMS Trainer and Funny River Safety LLC, at Soldotna Middle School room 9 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The Coast Guard-approved class is taught according to American Safety and Health Institute standards. Class is held for one night, teens and adults, six-person minimum and 10 maximum.
The cost is $40.
Basic Kayaking: Students will learn basic kayaking techniques for both sea and white-water kayaks: paddle strokes, wet exits and re-entry; Eskimo roll; self-rescue, rescue techniques, trip preparation, kayak selection, clothing, gear and places to kayak. Students are asked to come prepared to get into the pool. If bringing a kayak, clean it inside and out before the class. PFD (personal flotation device) recommended.
The class will be held at Skyview High School Pool from 7 to 9 p.m. for three nights (additional classes scheduled for Wednesdays, May 2 and 16), high school students and adults.
The cost is $20.
