ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The Chugiak Senior Center is donating $80,000 worth of medical supplies to residents of Chukotka in the Russian Far East.

Developer Marc Marlow is donating storage space for the supplies, prior to transport, in a closed power station he owns in Anchorage's Ship Creek area.

The medical supplies will be transported to their destination with the help of the Alaska Chukotka Development Program, a joint effort of the American Russian Center and the Institute of Social and Economic Research at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Victor Risher, an institute professor, praises the senior center for its generosity. He says the senior center is filling an important need in Chukotka, which suffers from a lack of medical and other social services.
