Soldotna Emergency 911 dispatchers Julie Carroll and Randi Sass, at left, receive Quarterly 911 Professionalism awards for their instrumental contributions toward the successful conclusion of a high-speed pursuit over 60 miles of Kenai Peninsula highways in February, ending near the Placer River bridge. According to the award citation, after coordinated efforts determined the cell phone number of the suspect, Carroll established phone contact with the driver and attempted to talk him into pulling over. Sass provided quick, accurate updates to all responding law enforcement officers. A loaded handgun, knives and alcohol were found in the suspect’s vehicle and he was arrested and charged with numerous criminal counts. Presenting the award, right, is Gina Wheeler, president of the Alaska chapter of the National Emergency Number Association. Looking on, center, is Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center Manager Tammy Goggia.
