Steven J. McClain

Soldotna resident Steven J. McClain died of natural causes at Central Peninsula General Hospital Friday, April 13, 2001. He was 56.

A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. John Ingram will officiate. His ashes will scattered at a later date on Gray's River in Alpine, Wyo.

Mr. McClain was born on Sept. 6, 1944, in Kellogg, Shoshone County, Idaho. He completed high school. He moved to Alaska on Nov. 30, 1999, and lived in Soldotna. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a big game guide in Wyoming. His interests included hunting, fishing and gun collecting.

"Steve was a kind-hearted man who made a friend of everyone he met," his family said.

He is survived by mother and stepfather, Betty and Ron Walden, of Soldotna; father, J.W. McClain; brother, Michael McClain; stepbrother and his wife, Scott and Gloria Walden; stepsister, Shanda Walden; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
