Zane Haakon Olson
Soldotna resident and University of Alaska Anchorage student Zane Haakon Olson died Friday, April 15, 2005, of natural causes in Anchorage. He was 23.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. Pastor Randy Parshall will officiate at the service. A reception will follow at the church.
Mr. Olson was born Oct. 1, 1981, in Dillon, Mont. He moved with his family to Soldotna in July 1990. He was a 2000 graduate of Skyview High School. He also attended Kenai Peninsula College. While at the UAA, he worked for the Phone-A-Thon, calling alumni.
He was a member of the UAA Concert Board and volunteered at Soldotna Community Schools.
"Zane loved his family. He loved art in all its forms and was a bright spot in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends daily," his family said.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Oral Nygaard Miller; and aunt, Beverly Miller.
He is survived by his parents, Brian and Laurie Olson of Soldotna; brother, Casey Olson of Soldotna; grandparents, Gene E. and Estella Miller of Great Falls, Mont., Darwin M. Olson of Britton, S. D., and Evelyn and Bill Dickinson of Britton; aunts and uncles, Vicki and Glenn Braun of Big Sandy, Mont., Kathy and Ken Foss of Libby, Mont., Donna Slaughter of Corpus Christi, Texas, Deanna Kelly of Santa Rosa, Calif., Brent Olson and Erik Ireland of Grass Valley, Calif., Kay and Wayne Bowers of Britton and Karryn and Krishna Ramanujan of Ithaca, N.Y.; cousins, Shane, Stephanie, Michael, Les, Heather, Dustin, Nadia, Zarrin, Phurba, Patrick, Karina, Jennifer, Ana and Kalyani; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family prefers memorial donations be made in Mr. Olson's name to the Kenai Peninsula College, Attn: Art Department, 34820 College Drive, Soldotna, AK 99669.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
