Organ donations save lives

Posted: Monday, April 17, 2006

At the April 4 Kenai Peninsula Borough assembly meeting, Mayor John Williams issued a proclamation that declared April to be Donate Life Month and encouraged everyone to sign up to be an organ donor.

Every day an average of 18 people die awaiting an organ transplant, and there is no excuse for this. Donating an organ, tissue or blood in most cases is very simple.

As an organ and blood donor, I have seen the difference that donating has made and would encourage everyone who hasn’t signed up to donate, to do so.

You can contact the Blood Bank of Alaska at 260-5672 to donate blood or Life Alaska Donor Services at (907) 562-5433 for information on becoming an organ donor.
