Combat government missteps by getting involved

Posted: Monday, April 17, 2006

I believe it states in Article 1 of the Alaska Constitution, “The right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government shall never be abridged.” Keep in mind our government officials are elected.

One reason for this might be our Governor trying to cancel kindergarten. Who in their right mind would consider this? Children are the foundation of our future. Come back to earth.

Another might be senior tax breaks. Many of our seniors have built this state. Many have served our country. For our state to balance the budget by taking money from our elders, many of whom are on a fixed income, is plain wrong. Even though the Governor does not need the money, many people do. We should look to the big oil companies to pay their fare share. Separate from some of the “billions” of dollars in profit.

I urge the citizens of the KPB to voice their opinions and get involved with what affects them.
