Howard graduates medic training

Former Soldotna resident Pfc. Chelsey Howard graduated from Army AIT combat medic training March 20 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

She will be stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. Howard completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Miss. in September.

She is the daughter of Kevin and Nancy Myers of Kenai and granddaughter of Jim and Betty Harris of Soldotna.

Lassen debates issues



Former Nikiski resident Tom Lassen competed in a recent debate competition for the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Lassen, along with his teammate Chris Kolerok, were awarded second place to Harvard on a 3-2 split, placing the UAA team over the Yale and Alberta teams. In addition to team recognition, Lassen was ranked 13 out of100 speakers for his individual speaking efforts.

He is the son of Linda Lassen and a 2002 graduate of Nikiski High School.

Wilbanks receives scholarship

Soldotna High School senior Kory Wilbanks was awarded a V-500 scholarship from Valley City State University in Valley City, N.D.

He is the son of Gregg and Jennifer Wilbanks.
