WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush intends to nominate David Garman, Sen. Frank Murkowski's chief of staff, to be the assistant secretary of Energy for energy efficiency and renewable energy, the White House says.
Garman has worked for the Alaska Republican since the start of Murkowski's first Senate term, in 1981.
If confirmed by the Senate, then Garman will oversee nearly 600 employees, six regional offices and an annual budget of more than $1 billion.
Garman would be the second Murkowski staffer to get a high-ranking job with the Bush administration.
Andrew Lundquist, of Fairbanks, is director of the White House energy policy task force.
