Rep. Young to speak at Kenai chamber lunch

U.S. Rep. Don Young will be the guest speaker at today's Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon at noon in the Old Town Village Restaurant.

Immunization clinic canceled for today

The immunization clinic at the Kenai Public Health Center at Kenai city hall scheduled for today has been canceled.

After School Club House closed today

The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula After School Club House will be closed today for staff training. It will reopen on Thursday after school.

All other activities at the club will continue as scheduled.

Arts at KPC this weekend

Friday, the Anchorage Opera Theater will present an opera sampler at 7 p.m. at Kenai Peninsula College in the Brockel Building.

Sunday Showcase this Sunday will be "Celebration of the Arts." It will feature a student art show, wildlife art prints by Boyd Shaffer and a recreation of an old-time radio show by the KPC community chorus. It begins at 3 p.m. in the Brockel Building.

Both events are free.

Developmental clinic offered

A pediatric specialist and neurodevelopmental brain function consultant will be holding a developmental diagnostic clinic Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Frontier Community Services on Kalifornsky Beach Road. For more information, or to set up an appointment, call 262-6331.

Canine Good Citizen test scheduled

Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will offer the Canine Good Citizen test Tuesday. Registration is from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Testing begins at 7. The fee is $10 per dog.

The test certifies that dogs have the training and demeanor to be a reliable, well-behaved member of the family and community. The CGC program welcomes both purebred and mixed-breeds. The test is noncompetitive. All dogs who pass all 10 items of the test receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. For more information, contact PenDOG at 262-6846.

Last chance to dance is Saturday

The last dance of the season for the Kenai River Folk Dancers is Saturday at 7 p.m. at Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School. Admission is $5. For more information, call 283-9227.

Next Habitat family sought

Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity is accepting homeowner applications for its next house, construction scheduled to begin this summer. Applicants must be willing to partner with the affiliate by contributing 500 hours of sweat equity, currently be living in substandard housing and be able to pay the no-interest mortgage.

Applications will be accepted through Sunday and will also be available at the Home Show on Sunday at the Soldotna Sports Center. For more information or to obtain an application, please leave a message at 283-7797.

Historical society meets Saturday

The Soldotna Historical Society will hold a board of directors meeting on Saturday at 10 a.m. at River City Books in Soldotna. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 262-4505.

Hospice quilt raffle ongoing

Hospice of the Central Peninsula is selling tickets for a chance to win a 5-by-6-foot, hand-made memory quilt, made of 12 blocks in shades of magenta, teal and white. It was made by a number of quilters in memory of their lost loved ones. Tickets are $1 each, or six for $5. They are available from hospice at 262-0453. The drawing will be held at the Home Show on Sunday at the Soldotna Sports Center.

High school dance concert scheduled

The Nikiski Middle-Senior High School Dance Concert will be held on April 27 and 28 in the school auditorium. Guest dancers will come from Soldotna and Kenai high schools, the North Star Tiniklers and alumni from Nikiski.

Tickets will be available at the door. General admission is $8, and admission for students and seniors is $5.

Pier One Theatre auditions coming up

Scripts for the shows "The Curious Savage" and "Art" are available at the Homer Public Library for 48-hour checkout. Auditions for "The Curious Savage" will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Auditions for "Art" will be May 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.
