Students fight hunger with pennies

Posted: Friday, April 18, 2003

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank wishes to thank Rosy Thompson, Soldotna After the Bell coordinator, and the Soldotna Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade students who participated in the "Pennies War" for the collection of $388.12 toward fighting hunger on the Kenai Peninsula.

I served the winning seventh-graders ice cream treats during their lunch hour.

Without help like these students, the food bank could not provide direct services to approximately 1,000 individuals each month. Our soup kitchen serves more than 1,400 meals on an average each month.
