Carnival to help Tool Time program

Aurora Heights Assembly of God Church and Inlet Faith Preschool at Mile 27 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Nikiski will conduct a carnival from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today to raise money for its Tool Time children's program. The carnival features food and games, all costing between 25 cents and $1. Tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, call 776-8723.

Gospel hour planned for Soldotna Senior Center

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will have a Good Friday Gospel Hour today including familiar music presented by the congregation of the Peninsula Christian Center. There also will be dessert and a devotional time. The service starts at 6 p.m. and donations will be accepted. For more information, call 262-7416.

Resurrection story presented tonight

A Soldotna community presentation, "We have seen God's glory," the resurrection story in drama and song, will be performed today, Saturday and Sunday at the Soldotna Church of God at the corner of Binkley and Redoubt avenues.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and at 4 p.m. Easter Sunday. Performances are free and open to the public. The cantata is sponsored by the Soldotna Church of God and members of other community churches make up the choir and drama cast.

National prayer day slated

A National Day of Prayer has been scheduled for noon May 1 at 145 Main St. in Kenai, according to Janine Espy, executive director of Love INC.

Prayer guides with the names of national, state and local civic leaders will be distributed as well as preaddressed "I prayed for you" post cards.

Friendship closet open Wednesdays

The Aurora Heights Assembly of God "Friendship Closet" is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays to meet people's clothing needs.

The clothing closet is located at the church on the corner of McGahan and Marie Avenue, near Mile 27 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Nikiski. For more information, call 776-8723.

Healing Rooms open every Friday and Saturday

The Healing Rooms, a Bible-based Christian ministry in Kenai, is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Healing Rooms is located across from the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center on the Kenai Spur Highway next to Little Ski-Mo.

Its mission is to bless Kenai Peninsula and other Alaska cities in the area of divine healing. For more information, call Ben Eby at 283-4404.

Christian group sponsors poetry contest

The Christian Fine Arts Society is sponsoring a religious poetry contest, free to everyone. Fifty prizes totaling $5,000 will be awarded, including a $1,000 grand prize.

People may enter the contest by sending one poem of 21 lines or less to Free Poetry Contest, 9588 Thornbush Lane, Fishers, IN 46038. The contest also can be entered online at

The entry deadline is Saturday.

Writers sought for faith anthology

Writers from Alaska are invited to share their own experiences of the power of prayer and faith in an anthology to be published in the latter half of 2003.

The anthology, "A Matter Of Faith," is being compiled by Arrowhead Publishing to provide examples of the positive power of prayer. Writers are invited to submit essays of up to 750 words that share their own experiences of how their faith has helped them meet major challenges in the journey through life.

Anyone whose work is selected will share in the royalties from book sales.
