COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) Focus on the Family, a major evangelical media ministry, announced that chairman James Dobson is turning over some duties to former Reagan Cabinet member Don Hodel so he can spend more time speaking and writing.

Hodel, a Focus board member since 1995 and a longtime Dobson friend, will assume Dobson's post as president May 15.

The Colorado Springs-based ministry airs 14 radio and television programs in more than 100 countries, produces more than a dozen periodicals and sponsors other family advice ministries.

Dobson, a child psychologist and influential voice among conservative Christians, speaks out regularly on such issues as abortion, gays and Republican politics. He founded Focus in 1977 in California. The ministry moved to Colorado Springs in 1991.

Hodel served as secretary of the interior and energy secretary. He was president of Christian Coalition, the political action group, from 1997 to 1999.
