Food bank seeking donations
The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is participating in the eighth annual Alan Shawn Feinstein Challenge. The Feinstein Challenge will divide 1 million dollars among agencies fighting hunger.
From March 1 through April 30, the total amount of food donated to the food bank will count toward the challenge. Food donated is valued at $1 per pound of donation.
Last year, the food bank received $1,714.80 from the Feinstein Foundation. For more information, call Linda Swarner at 262-3111. Donations may be dropped off at the food bank at 33955 Community College Drive in Soldotna.
Child development workshop set
Project GRAD Kenai Peninsula will host speaker Jeanne Soreson from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ninilchik School library. The topic will be raising self-reliant children in a self-indulgent world, "Seven Building Blocks for Developing Capable Young People." Door prizes, appetizers and refreshments will be provided. Genealogical society to meet
The Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will present a class on preserving your family history and scrap booking at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kenai Community Library. For more information, call 283-4481.
'Dunker' training available
The U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Aviation Administration and the Alaska Aviation Safety Foundation will hold a shallow water egress training workshop. Classroom instruction will be from 2 to 4 p.m. April 30 in Room B-200 at Homer High School and in-water training will be at 1 p.m. May 1 at the school. Participants who complete classroom and pool instruction will receive a certificate of participation from the Federal Aviation Safety Administration
