Sportsman banquet set

Peninsula Christian Center will host its annual sportsman's banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the center behind the Salvation Army store on the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna. The guest speaker is Johnny McCoy from the North Pole. McCoy survived a bear attack in September 2001 on the Tanana Flats. His story has been featured on the Outdoor Channel.

The banquet also will have door prizes, drawings and auctions for guided fishing trips and the sharpest knife made. The cost is $10 per person and includes a dinner.

Garage sale fund-raiser slated

The Sterling Senior Center will hold a garage sale fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the center. Space is still available. The cost is $25 for both days for space rental. A bake sale also is planned.

Wellness walk planned

The Dena'ina Health Clinic will host a walking for wellness activity from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the waterfront beach on Dunes Road off Cannery Beach Road. There is no cost. Walkers should dress for the weather. This is a family event.

Dinner, auction benefit slated

A benefit for Soldotna resident Russell McLaren will be held at 6 p.m. May 14 at the Soldotna Sports Center. Food, entertainment, a raffle and auction are some of the planned activities. Proceeds will help defray the cost of his cancer treatments.

A raffle for a nonguided caribou hunt is in progress and will be drawn at the dinner. The cost for the benefit is $15 per person at the door. For more information, call 262-1468.

Community race set to go

The Soldotna Rotary will host its annual rotary unity point-to-point run July 9.

The 10-mile race begins at 9 a.m. and the 5-kilometer race begins at 9:30 a.m. Bus transportation will be provided to starting lines. Participants are to meet at Soldotna High School one hour before start times. Both races will finish at SoHi.

Race bibs are available only at SoHi prior to the race. The cost is $10 for children ages 12 and under, $20 for adults or $50 per family. Day of race registration fees are $15 for children 12 and under and $25 for adults.

The race fee includes a shirt, finisher medals, awards for the top three men and women in each category, door prizes and a post-race barbecue.

Class reunion planned

The Kenai Central High School class of 1995 will host its 10-year reunion June 17 through 19. June 17 will include a dinner for the classmates and guests. A picnic and games will be held June 18 at the Kenai Green Strip. It is open to friends, family members and teachers. The registration deadline is April 30.
