Drivers take to the track to compete in various races

The auto racing scene on the Kenai Peninsula gives tourists and residents a chance to watch somebody else race around for a while during the harried and hectic Alaska summer.

Options abound for those yearning for the shrill of a spinning tire or the crackling rip of a powerful racing engine in pursuit of the checkered flag.

The Alaska Circle Track Association will be back at Twin City Raceway this season with stock car races scheduled throughout the summer. Twin City Raceway is on Shotgun Drive, Mile 6.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway.

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions made their weekend drag races a popular event the past two summers, and the group has another season of racing planned. However, there was some question as to whether the group could return to the Soldotna Municipal Airport this summer, so the location of the races was still up in the air as of spring.

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions also sponsor a series of motocross events at a course at the Soldotna airport.

The Soldotna airport is on Funny River Road.
