Wanted: Talent, submissions
Auditions for “Jubilee,” the Homer Council on the Arts spring youth variety show, will be held today at the council.
Submissions also are being accepted for the upcoming May gallery show, “Birds.” Arts from all mediums are accepted in the nonjuried show, provided the theme of the work is related to birds. Submissions must be presented by April 28.
The council is collaborating with South Peninsula Hospital on an exhibit titled “Healing Arts Loan Program.” Submissions of two-dimensional art will be accepted at the council between 9 and 11 a.m. May 2 for the juried show, which will be displayed at the hospital and rotated on a quarterly basis.

Homer seeks fire dancers
Friends of the Homer Library is seeking performance dancers for a fundraising dinner and auction to be held May 13 at the Homestead Restaurant. The evening’s Pacific Rim and Ring of Fire theme could include representative dances from along the west coast of South, Central and North America, Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, Puerto Rico and along the western coast of the Pacific Basin, including New Zealand, the Philippines, Japan and Bali. Dance club seeks members
Twin Cities Dance Club offers country dance lessons from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sundays at its club at the corner of the Kenai Spur Highway and Beaver Loop Road. Couple and line dancing is taught Tuesdays, couple dancing is taught Thursdays and swing dancing is taught Sundays. Community dances are held every other Saturday. Carving workshops slated

Genealogy tracers open classes

Kenai Fjords to feature kids art
Kenai Fjords National Park is sponsoring an art contest for students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Students can submit original works of two- or three-dimensional art. Entries will be judged by local artists, and prizes awarded in multiple age groups and categories. The show will open to the public at the Park Information Center in the Seward Small Boat Harbor on May 6.

Arts scholarships available
The Peninsula Art Guild is offering scholarships for high school seniors and college students pursuing or interested in pursuing visual arts studies.
Applications are available at all Kenai Peninsula high schools and the Kenai Fine Arts Center. The deadline for applications is May 6. For more information, call Debbie Harris at 283-7663.
Kenai Performers is looking for members for its storytelling troupe. Participants perform stories on predetermined themes. Performances are Sunday afternoons once a month, but members don’t need to participate that often.

LeeShore sponsoring contest
The LeeShore Center is sponsoring a T-shirt design contest for area high school students. Parental permission and the completion of an official entry form are required to participate.

The Kenai Watershed Forum is accepting applications from area artists to reserve booth space at the Kenai River Festival, scheduled for June 10 and 11 in Kenai.
