Sports Brief: Widman represents Soldotna at Boston Marathon

Anna Widman of Soldotna was Alaska's second-fastest female runner at the 115th Boston Marathon on Monday, finishing the race in 3 hours, 17 minutes, 9 seconds. Hillary Young of Douglas was tops among the state's female runners at 3:14:36.

Also representing the central Kenai Peninsula was Justine Reese of Kenai, who finished in 3:33:13, fifth-fastest in the state.

The outright winner was Caroline Kilel of Kenya (2:22:36).

In the men's race, Soldotna's William Coghill notched a time of 3:22:02, 13th among male runners from Alaska. He was the lone Peninsula athlete who finished on the men's side.

Jerry Ross of Anchorage was the No. 1 Alaska runner, notching a time of 2:24:32. Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai was the overall champion, running a world-record time of 2:03:02.
