Members of the Soldotna High School Swing Choir, above, recently returned from a national show choir competition in Branson, Mo. School choirs from 26 states including more than 1,000 students participated in Fame's American Show Cup competition, and SoHi's Swinging Stars received a standing ovation for their 22-minute show.

They received a superior rating for their performance, as well as several comments from directors and show representatives highlighting the choir members' positive attitudes and spirit. One of the choir tenors, Daniel Ghormley, also received special recognition for Outstanding Stage Presence, an award given only to three male performers.

The choir and accompanying band members, directed by Trudy Petersen, included Lydia Ames, Terrence Carlson, Sam Caswell, Jonny Coreson, Zach Cowan, Jacquelyn Cowan, Kacia Dimick, Jared Forbes, Daniel Ghormley, Adam Green, Eve Green, Erin Hartman, Heidi Keller, Tim Lybrand, Dustin Miller, Amirah Marey, Matt Myers, Ryan Myers, Josh Northcutt, Karina Petersen, Erin Powers, Aleks Psaffe, Alecia Smith, Erika Smith and Rebekah Tempel. The choir will next perform its competitive program as part of SoHi's spring concert, "The Music and the Memories," at 7 p.m. May 6.
