Area student named to dean's list

Caitlan Baldwin of Kenai has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minn. She is a 2001 Kenai Central High School graduate and the daughter of Randy and Arlette Baldwin. She is majoring in criminal justice. To be named to the dean's list, students must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.25.

Kenai student joins summit in Washington, D.C.

Hong Chen, a student at Kenai Central High School, participated in the Presidential Classroom Future World Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. March 23 to 30.

He joined more than 400 high school juniors and seniors from around the world to spend week exploring issues in international relations, diplomacy and the changing world economy.

Highlights for the week included seminars led by former U.S. Ambassador to Albania, William Ryersone; Dr. Alan Gropman, chair of the Department of Grand Strategy and Mobilization at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces; and acting director of the IMF Public Affairs, Kathleen White.

Hong Chen is an exchange student living with Gary and Judy Hinkle of Kenai.

Soldotna woman begins athletic training program

Andrea Jane Gensel of Soldotna has completed preliminary orientation and evaluation and has been accepted into the department of health, kinesiology and leisure studies program for athletic training education at Purdue University in Indiana.

She is a 2001 Soldotna High School graduate and the daughter of Dan and Kathy Gensel of Soldotna.
