Kenai Elks host easter egg hunt

The Kenai Elks Lodge #2425 holds its annual easter egg hunt and buffet Sunday April 24. The event is open to the public. The buffet begins at 1 p.m., with the easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. There will also be a face painter and the easter bunny. For for information, call the lodge after 4 p.m., 283-7776.

Weight loss and health support group meets

A Christian-based group focused on detox, raw food, juicing, greens, sprouting, smoothies, alkaline diet and exercise meets every Wednesday between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Soldotna Luthern Church. Attendance is free, but participants are asked to bring $2 -- $1 goes to the Biggest Loser of the week and $1 goes towards the Biggest Loser of the month. Those who gain weight are asked to contribute an extra $1 to the Biggest Loser of the Month. We are a Christian-based group. For more information call 362-1340 or 262-2200.

Visitors Center hosts gala reception Friday

The Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center has an opening event Friday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. for the "Intersecting Journeys" summer exhibit. Participating artists will be present to talk about the exhibit, and refreshments will be available. There will also be an auction to benefit the center.

Oilers offer grads scholarships

The Peninsula Oilers are giving away four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors, one each to the four major area high schools (Soldotna, Skyview, Kenai and Nikiski). The application deadline is April 22. For more information, contact your counselor or visit the Oilers website at

Nikiski rec. center hosts teen night

The Nikiski Community Recreation Center's next Teen Night for 13 -- 18-year-olds is April 22, 7 to 10 p.m., with open gym, basketball, teen center, movies, popcorn and more. For more information please call 776-8800.

Disc golf tournament on tap this weekend

A disc golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday at noon at the course near Kenai Central High School. The cost is $10, with proceeds going to the food bank.

Eat ice cream to support softball

The Kenai High softball team is having an ice cream social fundraiser on Monday night at the school from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5 for a single, $8 for couples and $10 for a whole family.
