State sets up Web site to help recruit teachers

Posted: Tuesday, April 23, 2002

JUNEAU (AP) -- The state Department of Education and Early Development has set up a Web site to help Alaska school districts attract more applicants for teaching jobs.

The site invites candidates to ''Teach in the Land of Adventure.''

Alaska schools face ''a sharply decreasing pool of teacher applicants caused by a nationwide teacher shortage,'' said Commissioner Shirley Holloway of the department.

The new site allows applicants to search for a job or register for one. School districts can post their vacancies there.

The site also has links for job fairs and teacher certification. Links also offer information on Alaska communities.

The web site is www.alaskateacher.org.
