White to talk at CPGH luncheon

Carol White of the State Cardiovascular Health Program will be the featured speaker at the Central Peninsula General Hospital luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. today at the hospital. Seniors to hold sale

The Sterling Senior Center will hold a Trash and Treasure Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday at the center. Tables are available to rent for $25. For more information, call 262-6808.

Fish and Game bear baiting clinic set

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will hold a black bear baiting clinic on the Kenai Peninsula. If you already have attended a clinic and have been certified, you do not need to recertify. Clinics are approximately three hours long. The clinic is open to the public, and there is no need to sign up to attend.

The clinic will be in Soldotna at 6 p.m. today at the Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show at the Soldotna Sports Center. A meeting in Homer is being planned. Those wanting to register a bait station in Units 7, 14A, 14B, 15, 16A or 20B may not do so unless they have completed a Fish and Game-approved bear baiting clinic.

Kids competitive soccer tryouts planned

Children interested in competitive soccer at a higher skill level are invited to tryouts for the Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club summer season. They will be held at Kenai Middle School today and Saturday for boys and girls ages 12 to 15. Evaluations for players with birthdays after 1993 will be held May 8 and team tryouts for the age 16 to 19 teams will be held at a later date.

Quilters yard sale planned

A quilters yard sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kenai Alternative High School. Rental space is available for $10 per table. Proceeds will benefit the KAHS yearbook club. For more information or to rent space, call Jennifer at 283-6295.

Wolf to hold town meeting

Rep. Kelly Wolf, R-Kenai, will hold a town hall meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly chambers. A legislative update will be given. KPEA to hold school funding rally

The Kenai Peninsula Education Association will hold a rally in support of school funding at noon Saturday at the Kenai Central High School cafeteria. Little League umpires sought

Nikiski drama show slated for Saturday

The Nikiski Middle-Senior High School drama, debate and forensics team will perform its annual show "Encore, Encore," consisting of a variety of pieces performed at the state DDF meet, at 7 p.m. Saturday at the school's theater. Admission is $5 per person. All proceeds will go to the team's travel expenses next year. Due to incorrect information submitted to the Clarion, the date of this event was listed incorrectly in Wednesday's Schools section.

Water safety class scheduled

The Soldotna High School swimming pool is taking registration for a water safety instructor class Saturday. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Limited space is available. Preregistration is recommended. For more information, the time or to register, call 262-7419.
