Why do we have to deal with the big oil companies at all when they are the whole problem? I’m not being sarcastic, but really wonder why Alaska can’t build the pipeline itself -- when it wants to, the way it wants to and to wherever it wants to. Is it possible to hire our own surveyors, buy our own pipe and hire our own welders? Why not? Then we will have total control over it. Big oil, who doesn’t even respect our state enough to pay the fine it’s owed the Alaska people for 18 years, will have no part in it until it reaches Valdez.
People in Idaho don’t pay more for potatoes than the rest of the country, why should we pay more for fuel? There was an idea during the last gubernatorial race that if the pipeline was owned by the state it could even give cheap gas to residents along its path, and to the rest of the state, as well. Is that too liberal? Well, what’s wrong with liberal once in awhile? Don’t most people like it when they’re treated liberally? Do the oil companies really deserve to make more profit off our backs?
