Posted: Monday, April 24, 2000

Longtime resident and former Kenai student, Jesse Perkins, 22, was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident at the Dunes on the Oregon coast on March 5. Jesse was sitting on his bike, watching the other riders, when a cyclist jumped a dune and landed directly on him. Although he was wearing a helmet, he suffered severe head injuries that have kept him in a coma since that time.

His mother, Romaine Walters, said that he is beginning to respond somewhat to family members. He has been discharged from the brain trauma center in Portland, Ore., and is now at Pacific Specialty Rehabilitation Center in Vancouver, Wash.

He attended elementary and junior high school in Kenai, before moving outside with his parents, Karl and Romaine Walters. He returned to visit several times during his high school years. His wife, Charlotte, and 3-year-old son, Caleb, live in Vancouver.

Friends wishing to send get-well greetings can mail them to Jesse Perkins, c/o Romaine Walters, 1612 N.E. 107th, Vancouver, Wash. 98664.
