Fort Yukon man faces sex assault charges

FAIRBANKS (AP) A 43-year-old Fort Yukon man has been accused of rape.

Charles Peterson is faces first-degree and second-degree sexual assault charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Fairbanks Superior Court this week, Peterson went to the woman's house and tried to have sex with her.

The woman tried to leave, but Peterson slammed the door and prevented her from going, the charging document states. The document also states the woman told investigators Peterson said he was going to become a rapist.''

He dragged her to her bed and had sex with her against her will, according to the charging document. The incident occurred April 16.

A friend reported the incident to Fort Yukon police two days later, and the woman was flown to Fairbanks for a sexual assault examination.

When investigators asked Peterson if he was willing to submit a DNA sample, Peterson said that he had consensual sex with the woman and stopped when she said to do so, according to the charging document.

Peterson was transported to Fairbanks and lodged at Fairbanks Correctional Center.
