Beta Sigma Phi to host luncheon

The Beta Sigma Phi International will host its Founders Day celebration luncheon at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Log Cabin Inn Bed and Breakfast on Kalifornsky Beach Road. All area members are encouraged to attend.

The group is celebrating the 74th anniversary of the organization. The reservation deadline is today. For more information or to make a reservation, call JoAnne Martin at 283-9424.

Red hat parade scheduled

The Kenai River Reds, Some Pinks and We Ain't Salmon Chapter of the Red Hat Society will host a Kenai Peninsula Red Hat Society Parade at 3 p.m. Monday. The parade route will begin at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center and end at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Community members are encouraged to participate. Kenai Mayor Pat Porter will be the parade marshal.

Middle school mass choir concert slated

The 2005 Kenai Peninsula Borough School District's middle school mass choir festival will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School. All students enrolled in choir at Homer, Kenai, Nikiski and Soldotna middle schools, as well as Aurora Borealis, will rehearse all day Monday under the direction of Cynthia Barnard of Wyoming. Barnard was the KPBSD middle school choir festival clinician in 1997.

Each school will perform individually at 6 p.m., then the mass choir will perform five songs. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students.

Preschool fund-raiser slated

Kenaitze Cuya Qyut'anen Head Start will hold a garage and bake sale fund-raiser from 9:30 to 5 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Family House on Willow Street in Kenai. Proceeds will benefit classroom activities. Donations items will be accepted at the Family House beginning Monday.

'Dunker' training available

The U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Aviation Administration and Alaska Aviation Safety Foundation will hold a shallow water egress training workshop. Classroom instruction will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Room B-200 at Homer High School and in-water training will be at 1 p.m. May 1 at the school.

Participants who complete classroom and pool instruction will receive a certificate of participation from the Federal Aviation Safety Administration.

Carnival set

The Kenai Peninsula State Fair will host a carnival fund-raiser with Golden Wheel Amusements rides, games and vendors from May 12 through 15 at the fairgrounds in Ninilchik.
