In the Spotlight: Robby Gordon

Posted: Thursday, April 25, 2002

Hometown: Bellflower, Calif.

Lives: Orange, Calif.; Parker, Ariz.

Job: Driver of No. 31 Cingular Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing

2001 record: 17 races, one victory and $1,371,900 in earnings

Career record: 71 races, one victory, four top-fives, six top-10s and more than $3 million in earnings

Personal notes: Gordon drove for three different teams in 2001 before landing a full-time ride with Richard Childress Racing at the end of the year. He responded by winning the season finale at New Hampshire, knocking series champion Jeff Gordon out of the lead to win the race. ... Came within three miles of winning the 2000 Indianapolis 500, but his car ran out of gas on the last lap ... Instead of living in a motorhome in the infield like other drivers, he had a trailer converted into a two-story, two-bedroom townhouse.
