ANCHORAGE (AP) Three teenage boys were arrested after they stole a pickup and refused to stop for an officer, police said.

The boys were age 13, 15, and 16. All were taken to McLaughlin Youth Center and charged with vehicle theft, criminal mischief, eluding an officer, theft and reckless driving, police said.

Police have also arrested another 16-year-old boy under suspicion of being involved with the others in breaking into several cars since the beginning of April, said police spokesman Ron McGee.

An officer spotted the first three in the stolen pickup about 1:45 a.m. Thursday, according to police. The officer tried to get the boys to stop, but they fled.

Other officers laid down a strip of spikes across a nearby road, but the driver of the truck veered off the road around them.

Officers later found the truck abandoned then soon found the boys hiding beneath a van in an alley.

Police found a shotgun inside the truck that had been stolen from another car earlier.
