JUNEAU (AP) Marcia Kennai has been chosen to head the state's Office of Children's Services.
The appointment was made Thursday by Gov. Frank Murkowski, but Kennai won't start working full-time until September. At that point, she'll be deputy commissioner of the state Department of Health and Social Services.
Before she takes on the new job, Kennai will work on an improvement plan to address deficiencies within the agency found in a federal audit last year, the governor's office said. She'll also work on the transition as the former Division of Family and Youth Services is dissolved and the new Office of Children's Services is born.
Kennai was hired after a nationwide search for a new division head. She previously served as director for Protective Services Division of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department. Prior to that, she was director of Community Services and Programs at Good Shepherd Center in Maryland.
