Bear baiting clinic set

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will hold a black bear baiting clinic at 6 p.m. today at the Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show in the Soldotna Sports Center. Hunters may not register a bait station in Units 6D, 7, 14A, 14B, 15, 16A or 20B unless they have successfully completed an Fish and Game approved bear baiting clinic.

Hunters who already have attended a clinic and been certified are not required to recertify. Sessions are walk-in and are approximately three hours long and provided free of charge to the public. For more information, call Fish and Game at 262-9368.

Library hosts boat raffle

Friends of the Soldotna Joyce Carver Library are selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a fully equipped drift boat and trailer, and other equipment and cash.

The cost of tickets are $100. One thousand tickets are available and may be purchased at the Soldotna Sports and Recreation Show at the Soldotna Sports Center, River and Sea Marine and Trustworthy Hardware and Fishing in Soldotna.

The drawing will be held at the community picnic during Soldotna Progress Days. The proceeds will go toward the library expansion project.

Red Hat parade today

The fourth annual Red Hat Society's Birthday Parade will be held at 3 p.m. today. The parade will leave the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center and travel along Frontage Road, ending in the parking lot at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center.

Red Hat Society members may participate in the parade. The general public is invited to watch.

Dinner, auction fundraiser aims high

A dinner, silent and outcry auction fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. The auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. A slide show also is planned.

Soccer registration ends today

The Boys and Girls Club outdoor soccer registration ends today. Outdoor soccer is for youth ages 4 to high school. Participants must be a current Boys and Girls Club member plus $60 for seventh grade and up and $50 for sixth grade and under.

Registration is available in person at 227 Caviar Street in Kenai or by fax to 283-4675.

Scout-O-Rama Saturday

The Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America will hold its annual Scout-O-Rama from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26 at Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Car wash fundraiser soaps up

A car wash fundraiser to earn money to help Jen Kohler attend international honor band will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the parking lot at the Kenai Blockbuster store. Kohler will travel to Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, and France, through the Sound of America European tour. She is only one of two from Alaska to be chosen to partcipate. Peninsula Optional hosts open house

Peninsula Optional High School will hold and open house May 7 at 7 p.m.The event will provide information for potential new ninth and 10th grade students, their families and any other interested individuals. For more information call the school at 714-8945.
