ANCHORAGE (AP) -- California-based Safeway Co. announced Tuesday that it has agreed to sell CarrsTix for an undisclosed amount to the California company

Safeway acquired CarrsTix last April as part of its $330 million purchase of Carr Gottstein Foods Co.

Richard Near, Safeway's Alaska manager, said Safeway didn't have experience running a ticket vendor but wanted to continue the service.

Under the deal, will keep the CarrsTix name in Alaska and continue selling tickets at some 20 Carrs stores throughout the state, Near said. It would also run the CarrsTix office at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.

Founded in 1996, California-based is an online seller of entertainment, sports and travel tickets. It also sells tickets through retail outlets and call centers.

Safeway and hope to close their deal within a month, Near said.
